Increasing dependency on government is disastrous for all concerned and, ultimately, unsustainable. In the most "generous" states (it's never really generous to take stuff from people, even if you give it to someone else you think needs it more), there are still interest groups and ideological groups that demand more spending and higher taxes. Even in the Northern European countries, some people say government isn't big enough.
